Written May 14th, 2002 ![]() It was a beautiful sunny day at Jolly Rogers Motorsports park in Lempster, NH. with 690 racers entered in various classes! Track was good, but not as good as it had been in years past. They added some beach sand areas to a track that is primarily loamy. This caused many riders trouble since most ran intermediate to hard track tires. The sand was also placed in ridiculous areas of the track, such as BEHIND the start (so you had to push your bike through wallowy soft sand to get to your gate pick) and before a series of spectator jumps, making it difficult, if not impossible for most riders to clear the first of three and get rhythm for the next 2 tabletops. I ran in the 30+ and the 40+C classes. The Dale was awesome on the new concrete starting pad. No wheelspin and as soon as the bike hit the newly placed sand straight in front, I immediately shifted to 3rd and flew down the straight to be in the top 5 in the 1st turn in each moto I raced. In the 1st 40+ moto, I was running in 4th and going for the 3rd place spot when I came into a turn and my front tire (stock one which rides like on marbles on hard pack) washed out and I went down. Thanks to the green button I was up and going and ended in 6th out of 17 racers. Second 40+ had good start again and was up in 2nd for a short periods, when my lack of stamina won out and I ended in 4th, for a 4th overall. 30+C 1st moto was running in about 5th when I overjumped the big tabletop by about 15 feet beyond the landing area and slammed so hard I nearly broke both my wrists and ankles and compressed my spine (ouch!!!!!!!!) but finished 10th out of 36 riders. I didn't go out for the 2nd 30+ moto because I was hurting so bad, so I let one of the 40+ A racers try my bike in his moto...he LOVED it! He said he'd race one in a minute! He loved the suspension and motor, but, like me, HATED the stock front tire. I will be changing that one for my next race Memorial Day weekend in Derby VT. My C-Dale bud, Kevin Willis did very well as usual, but the BIG surprise was a kid who went 1-1 on a demo C-Dale in the 250C class! He had a half a lap lead in one of his motos, on a track which has about a 2 minute lap time! *On another note: I raced the ArenaCross track at Winchester SpeedPark in Winchester NH, the night before Jolly Rogers. The Dales showed well. I took 3rd in the 35+. I had to race against "A" riders, since there were no other "B" or "C" riders. It was a blast and the C-Dale, although big for the track, worked well. Ben Asaff crushed the competition on his C-Dale Speed quad. More reviews to come! The Bugman
