Beautiful day! Sunny and the high was in the upper 70’s. I signed up for the 250D class and only had 1 other competitor. He was a guy I knew that normally rides in the 125C class. He had just bought a YZ400F to ride to build up his strength.
Moto 1:
Since we only had 2 of us in the 250D class they put us in a drop with the 250C riders. So 8 of us total were gunning for the holeshot. I ended up in 5th place in the first turn ahead of my 250D competitor though! About half way through the first lap on a table top the 3rd place rider nose-dived and baled of his bike. I slowed down to avoid running into him and that’s when I lost the lead in the 250D class, oh well. The bike ran great and the suspension was awesome. I felt that I was faster on the track this day than I ever have been. I ended up finishing the moto ahead of a couple of C riders.
Moto 2:
Before they dropped the gate for us they watered the start straight. I ended up moving my bike to avoid the slop that was just created and started further inside than I ever have. This time I was 3rd into corner but because the Dale turns so good I was the second rider to reach corner #2. I quickly got passed by the faster C riders but was still ahead of my only 250D competitor. This time it took him until the end of lap 1 before he was able to pass me on a big jump. The track was extremely dry and dusty but the bike did well. I think the stock Pirellis work pretty good on our dried-out Midwestern clay. The rear end rarely came around on me. I ended up finishing the race about the same as Moto 1. So for the day I was 2nd overall or last place!
I still love my X440s and know that as my skills improve the bike will be capable of going as far as I can push it.
