Written by: Ray Van Asten aka "Dubya" Date: December 2nd, 2002 ![]() I own an '02 Cannibal (Sagem 500 w/Ohlins) and an '02 Speed (MC1000) First off, my quad riding expierience stems from the 3 wheelin days whenI first owned a Honda 200X. I quickly updated to the 350X and tried every machine I could get my hands on,(and modded every machine I owned), the rest is history. Up until about a year ago I drove a piped and carbed modded Banshee. I was in the market for a new quad. I saw the Cannondales on the web and quickly took to them. I did some more research and quickly realized if I buy one of these things, I won't have to stick another couple of grand into it. The more research I did I realized that the dealers let you ride them before you buy them. Try to do that with a Raptor. I quickly drove to my local dealer and they had it ready for me. After about a five minute orientation I jumped aboard. I squeezed the clutch, touched the start button, twisted the throttle, it turned over but wouldn't fire. The dealer reminded me of the EFI system and the points he covered during the orientation. I guess old habits are hard to break. I squeezed the clutch, touched the start button and it fired. WOW, this thing sounds impressive. After it warmed up I twisted the trottle to get familiar with it. It revved so fast and so quick. I put the unit in gear and took it easy on the first couple of laps around the dealers trail. I then opened it up. The unit revved and accelerated like no other machine I have ever ridden. Its smooth and linear acceleration was easy to control and it hooked up throughout its power curve. I couldn't belive this quad. I rode their demo unit for about an hour testing its brakes, suspension and getting more used it. The unit absorbed the bumps and whoops and did not pound the driver like the other quads out there. After the test drive I pulled up to dealer and looked the quad over. I was very impressed. I checked out the quad's quality. With having a weld background I tend to look at that sort of thing. The quality was amazing and the welds were perfect. I think Cannondale has really done there homework. I think now that I owned two Cannondales the rest speaks for itself. These quads sell themselves. Ray Van Asten
